Formed in 1934 as a holding company for Boulton & Paul, Ltd. and one-third of the capital of A.T.S., Ltd., which pooled metal construction patents belonging to Boulton & Paul, Ltd., Gloster Aircraft Company, Ltd., Sir W.G. Armstrong Whitworth Aircraft, Ltd. and the Steel Wing Company, Ltd.
