[edit]
Aircraft Control
- Left Bank (Left Arrow)
- Rolls the plane to the left, which allows you to turn to the left. When using a joystick, pushing the stick to the left performs this function.
- Right Bank (Right Arrow)
- Rolls the plane to the right, which allows you to turn to the right. When using a joystick, pushing the stick to the right performs this function.
- Pitch Nose Up (Down Arrow)
- Pitches the plane’s nose up, which allows your plane to climb, provided you have enough engine power. When using a joystick, pulling back on the stick performs this function.
- Pitch Nose Down (Up Arrow)
- Pitches the plane’s nose down, which allows your plane to dive. When using a joystick, pushing forward on the stick performs this function.
- Rudder Pedal Right (X)
- Yaws the plane to the right. On the ground, this helps your plane turn to the right. In the air, it will cause the nose to slip to one side. When using a joystick, twisting the stick to the right performs this function.
- Rudder Pedal Left (Z)
- Yaws the plane to the left. On the ground, this helps your plane turn to the left. In the air, it will cause the nose to slip to one side. When using a joystick, twisting the stick to the left performs this function.
- Trim Controls (T)
- When in the online game, this function performs an automatic ‘trim’ of the plane’s controls for steadier flight. As you consume fuel, drop ordnance and reach different speeds, the aircraft’s reaction to the air forces will vary, so frequent trims are necessary to keep the plane flying in the most efficient manner possible.
- Center Rudder Control (S)
- When using keyboard rudder controls, this function centers the rudder.
- Flaps: Extend (F) (Button 5)
- Drops the flaps one notch.
- Flaps: Retract (D) (Button 6)
- Raises the flaps one notch.

- Using this function twice in succession will cause your pilot and crew to bail out of the plane. After your pilot has left the airplane, press ALT E again to open your chute. If you bail out over enemy territory, you can be captured, which ends any scoring streaks you may have going at the time. Keep in mind that bailing out at high speeds can be fatal.
- Autopilot: On/Off (A)
- Turns the autopilot on or off (bombers with level bomb sights only). The autopilot is a simple, ‘hold course and fly level’ system. When enabled, the word auto will be shown in the On-Screen Flight Data area.
- *Note: Autopilot cannot be engaged if Follow Padlocked Teammate function is already engaged.
- Follow Padlocked Teammate (CTRL A)
- Turns on or off a special form of autopilot that will attempt to maintain your plane’s position in relation to another friendly plane. To engage the “follow” mode you must use the padlock view to “lock on” to the plane you wish to maintain formation with.
- *Note: “Follow” mode cannot be engaged if normal Autopilot is already engaged.
- Trim Rudder Left (LShift Z)
- Manually trims the rudder to the left. This is used to offset a yaw right condition so that the plane flies true without control input.
