Formed in 1935 as a holding corporation for various aircraft and engine manufacturers. The companies under its control in February 1946 included Sir W.G. Armstrong-Whitworth Aircraft, Ltd., Armstrong Siddeley Motors Co., Ltd., Gloster Aircraft Co., Ltd., Hawker Aircraft, Ltd., A.V. Roe & Co., Ltd. (Avro), and Air Service Training, Ltd.
