This is Hiroyoshi Nishizawa, by most estimates the highest scoring Japanese ace of the war. While Japanese kill claims have been frequently called into question, most who have looked into it would agree that Nishizawa could be given credit for downing 87 enemy aircraft while others say it may have been as many as 103. He was killed while being flown in a Ki 49 Helen bomber over the Philippines. Ironically, his zero had been used in the 2nd wave of official kamikazi attacks on American ships and he and other pilots were on their way to pick up more planes when they were shot down.
