"The Green Hearts" A loosely knit group of pilots who are interested in JG54 and fly from time to time under the "JG54 Grunherz" nic in the virtual skies of Fighter Ace. You may see us flying from time to time under Grunherz nics in German Aircraft in TC and Historical and in Campaigns and events. Adolf Gallant was asked which of his fighter squadrons were rated the best, he named two squadrons, JG26 and the other was JG54. One of the most successful of the high-scoring Luftwaffe Jagdgeschwader during World War 2, JG 54 ‘Grünherz’ (Green Hearts) was formed from three disparate fighter 'Gruppen' immediately prior to the Battle of Britain. Having enjoyed immediate success over the Channel and South-east England during the summer of 1940, the unit was transferred to the Eastern Front in the spring of 1941 in preparation for Operation Barbarossa - the German invasion of the Soviet Union. JG 54 would remain a Jagdwaffe stalwart in the east, flying firstly Bf 109Fs and then the Fw 190, until May 1945. By war’s end, the Geschwader’s pilots had claimed over 9500 kills, and produced over 100 aces. Men like Hans Philipp(206 kills), Walter Nowotny(258 kills) and Otto Kittel(267 kills) flew with JG54. GRUNHERZ was one of the highest scoring squadrons of the German Air Force in WW2. Do you want to be one of the elite, one of the few, the special, a part of history, one of the Jagdgeschwader 54 Jagdflieger "GRUNHERZ"? Then pay a visit to JG54's website below.
