Special Ops Ribbon

Awarded to the pilot who conducts Special Operations during an historical event under the direct command of his Air Commander.

A special operation at the beginning of the Milne Bay event was launched. This resulted in a long flight deep into enemy territory to trigger a bomber field, attack a main JP airfield, knock out tank factories and generally disrupt enemy operations. 5 pilots are deemed eligible to wear the Special Ops ribbon. Their actions were not only a success in enabling the first bomber base to be captured but enemy armored counter attacks were neutralized and the attention of JP pilots in the area was diverted to the small group of Allied intruders. These 5 brave pilots are:

Special operations were a big part of the success enjoyed by the Allies during The Oil Offensive. An elite group flying for over an hour and unescorted, into the heart of German territory. Their target, the heaviliy gaurded oil refineries located along the river. The strikes were carried out with remarkable timming and accuracy, crippling production, and destroying over 1/3 of German oil reserves. In recognition of the Superfriends' ability to successfully carry out this type of strike, they have earned the right to wear the Special Ops Ribbon. Pilots eligible to wear the award are:
