The origins of the company date to 1916 when brothers Allen and Malcolm Loughead formed their first aircraft company. The company was moved to Burbank, California in 1926 and changed its name to Lockheed. In 1937 Lockheed formed Vega Aircraft Corporation as an affiliate and in 1941 became a wholly owned subsidiary.
